Data Loss from NSS Volumes Due to Overbooking and Novell Recovery

The NSS (Novell Storage Services) file system is the evasion file system for Novell NetWare 6 and its later file versions. It has several advanced features over the traditional NWFS file system such as visibility, native Unicode, multiple concurrent namespace support, trustee access control, rich file attributes, event file lists, multiple data stream support and many alike.

It is a 64-bit file system, which can manage a practically unlimited number of file and directory objects. On every physical storage device, NSS abstracts more than four physical NetWare partition for making them appear as incessant free space.

This file system recognizes logical and physical devices up to two Terabyte in size from which you could create any number of fundamental storage resources, known as pools. You can select space from, as a minimum, four devices of up to two terabyte each for creating a pool with the maximum pool size of eight TB.

A pool may contain an unrestricted number of volumes. If the pool spans the devices, the volumes automatically span devices. A single NSS volume can store up to eight trillion files and grows up to eight terabyte, depending on size of pool.

Because there is not bound to the number of hard drive volumes you can create, it is possible that the total size of all the NSS volumes taken together is larger than the storage size of pool itself. NSS refers this process as “Overbooking.” When you overbook the space in a pool, the server may get crashed and all of the data stored on it may become inaccessible.

Server crash is the most crucial situation, which any organization could face. The server contains all the business critical data of the organization and loss of these data could lead to the complete destruction of business.

The data loss has several effects on the working of any organization. The organization may lose its market value and revenue. In this way, you can see the importance of Novell recovery for an organization.

The Novell recovery can be performed using the specially designed third party applications known as Novell NetWare recovery software. Novell partition recovery software are very easy to use and perform quick Novell data recovery.

For this particular case, you need to use an effective Novell NetWare recovery software which could recover data from NSS file system based Novell volumes.

Stellar Phoenix Novell Data Recovery is the most fabulous Novell NetWare recovery software which can recover the lost data in all possible cases of data loss. This software has a robust procedure of effectively scanning the affected Novell hard drive and recovering all of the data from it.

This Netware recovery software is available in two different forms, usable for NWFS and NSS file systems. For NSS file system based volumes, this software comes with the name of Stellar Phoenix Novell (NSS) NSS Data Recovery software.
